Revisiting rice stink bug on wheat

Previously we have posted about rice stink bugs in wheat and in corn on weedy grasses, Dr. Jason Weirich was visiting a wheat field in southeastern New Madrid county and took this picture of rice stink bug eggs and early nymphs on wheat. Green and brown stink bugs lay eggs in a mass, not a two egg wide line, and many stink bugs are red when young.

Many wheat fields in the area are nearly ready for harvest and rice stink bug should not be too big of threat (again relying on the work of Angus Catchot). This does emphasize the importance of scouting your fields and knowing what pests you are dealing with.
